Alejandro Valladares (Fr. Alex) and I am the Director of Vocations for the Archdiocese of Mobile. I was appointed July 17, 2003 and am beginning my 8th year in this role of service for the Archbishop and Archdiocese. Born in New Orleans, I attended Seminary at St. Joseph's Seminary College, St. Benedict, La, from 1990-1991, then joined the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word in Irondale, Al from 1991-1993. After discerning that I was called to Diocesan priesthood I returned to formation with the Archdiocese of Mobile in Fall of 1993 and went on to finish my college seminary receiving a bachelor degree in Philosophy in 1996 from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia. I was then assigned to study and be formed a priest at the Pontifical North American College in Rome. In 1999 I received an STB from the Gregorian University in Rome and was ordained a Deacon by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger at St. Peter's on October 7, 1999. I went on to finish my studies in Theology, receiving a Licentiate degree from the John Paul II Institute at the Lateran University, Rome in the Theology of Marriage and Family. I was ordained a priest July 1, 2000. I have served as an Associate Pastor at St. Ignatius Church for two years, taught 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th grade religion at St. Ignatius School and McGill-Toolen High School in Mobile. I was appointed Campus Minister to the University of South Alabama July 17, 2003 and continue in this role to the present day, ministering to University students each day (visit our web site at www.southalabama.edu/catholic) As Director of Vocations I recently had the unspeakable joy of seeing four of my former seminarians be ordained priests on June 6, 2010.
